Personal Profile:

Dr. Syed Ashad Mustufa has been in the field of Research and Development since 2001 and has worked for various reputable organisations nationally and internationally such as NESCOM (National Engineering Scientific Commission) Pakistan, Satellite Engineering Center Singapore, Nanyang Technological University Singapore, Defence Science Organisation Singapore, E.ON RWTH University Aachen Germany, University of Trento Italy, Fondazione Bruno Kessler Italia, Yanbu Industrial college Saudi Arabia, University of Pehang Malaysia, Tyndall National Institute Ireland, Hach-lang, several industrial & academic sectors in Pakistan.

Dr. Mustufa has over 13+ years of experience of Mission Critical and Safety Critical fault critical Mix Signal System and Power converter design for Industrial, commercial, defence and Aerospace sectors. He is experienced in providing Sustainable/ Distributed Energy solutions, especially in designing, planning, installation & maintenance of hybrid Grid Tie Inverter (Solar & wind), charge controllers, Solar based Hydrogen Electrolyzers, Hydrogen Fuel cell and Natural Gas based bi-fuel system. He has hands-on experience in low voltage & high Power Converters (DC/DC, AC/DC, DC/AC, SMPS) Motor Drives (VFD & DC drives), Uninterrupted Power supply (UPS) designing, installation & maintenance.

Dr. Mustufa also involved in providing Point of Sale solutions based on ISO/IEC7816 (contact), ISO/IEC 14443 (contactless) Smart cards with 128 bit AES Information security algorithms & RFID based Solutions. Dr. Mustufa also worked as an external advisor of Senior Level Projects (FYPs) to undergrad and postgrad students from different reputable national and international universities. He also involved in promoting coordination between Academic & Industrial sectors and also conducted short courses and workshops for students & professionals.

Industrial Experience:

  • May 2014 to Date, working as a Researcher in WSN (Wireless Sensor Network) Group in Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork Ireland. My responsibilities are design and development of Mix Signal Systems. Moreover, I am involved in implementing the standard documentations and logging-procedures of versatile nature of projects.
  • Dec 2012 to May 2014, worked as a Ph.D. Fellow in ARES (Applied Research on Energy Systems) Fondazione Bruno Kessler italia. My responsibilities are to identify the best candidates among the different Distributed Energy sources and integrate them in order to fulfill the energy requirements of the Smart communities level or for Zero or Positive energy Smart Building
  • Dec 2008 to Nov 2012, worked as a Team leader of Design & Development in eLab Solution Provider company. Involved in providing consultancy to Academic, Commercial, Industrial, Defense and Aerospace Sectors.

Satellite Engineering Centre (SEC) is an interschool research centre in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). SEC’s mission is to spearhead R&D activities in new satellite systems and applications which have potential industrial applications in the near and long term future. NTU collaborates with the DSO (Defense Science Organization) National Laboratories to form a joint NTU-DSO Centre for Research in Satellite Technologies in SEC. Key Responsibility:

Worked as a R&D Engineer (Research Associate) in Satellite Engineering Center. I was involved in the design and development of the Singapore’s first Micro-satellite mission (XSAT1) running under CREST (NTU-DSO). I was working in OBDH (On board Data Handling) Group & I designed the fault redundant mission critical system to interface four different subsystems (i.e. X-Band Transmitter, S-BAND Transceiver, Power Supply system & Payload subsystem). I was involved in Simulation, Schematic & Layout designing, Fabrication, Space Grad Parts Assurance, selection of Space Grad Sensors, Environmental Testing on System level and Trouble shooting for Engineering Model (EM), Qualification Model (QM) and Flight Model (FM) of Satellite.

Tasks Accomplished:

  • Completed the EM, QM & FM design (including Hardware and software) for PPU (Pay load Unit), PSS (Power Supply Subsystem), XBT (X-Band Transmitter) and CCSDS (S-Band Transceiver) Subsystem.
  • Designed different sets of Testing Scenarios for Performance verification of sub-system & system level of the Satellite. Also involved in system level environmental testing and validation of Hardware/ Software designs.
  • Worked on different type of Space Grad thermal sensors and designed the Real time Structural thermal Monitoring unit used to acquire temperature sensors data from Honeycomb (HC) panels and Base plate of Satellite.

Hardware in Space

Singapore’s first historical satellite XSAT-1, launched on 20th April 2011. All my designs have been tested and verified successfully.

Field Supervisor:

Nominated as “Field Supervisor” for Post-Grad project title “A cellular Energy Managment Syste for Monitoring and Controling based on Time of Power Consumption” of Electrical & Electronics department of Universiti Malaysia Pahang.
